Just before the turbulence of NFTNYC took center stage, the Palm Network pre-NFTNYC event captivated blockchain enthusiasts in New York City on April 1st. Hosted at the LUME Studios NYC, this exclusive meeting was a celebration of Palm Network’s pioneering governance model and its vision to reimagine the fusion of blockchain with sports, culture, and entertainment.
The event showcased a remarkable lineup of speakers, each bringing invaluable insights to the table. Joe Lubin, Co-Founder of Ethereum and ConsenSys, alongside Guillaume Dechaux from Palm Foundation, engaged in a fireside chat that set the tone for the evening. Dylan Hattem, Partnerships Lead at Magic, moderated a panel featuring industry luminaries like Scott Lawin, CEO of Candy Digital; Samir Adamine, CEO of Absolute Labs; and John Laberee, Head of Business Development at Rarible a talk about The Future of Digital Assets: Innovation, Partnerships, and Market Evolution. The event also featured Ed Zipco, co-founder of Superchief Gallery; Empress Trash, a renowned digital artist; and Andrea Lerdo from Palm Foundation, highlighting the intersection of blockchain with digital art and culture.
Reflecting on the journey of Palm Network, Guillaume posed a thought-provoking question: “Do you think the communities are ready to adopt web3?” Joe responded clearly, emphasizing the transformative power of NFTs: “NFTs were a revelation because they were this new kind of container, a programmable container that you can wrap around content in any form and just unleash a lot of the value around content around intellectual property.”
From NFT Summer to Palm Genesis, the evolution of Palm Network was discussed during the event. “The Palm project emerged during a pivotal time in our ecosystem,” Lubin explained. The NFT boom was in full swing, but transaction fees on the Ethereum network were skyrocketing. Artists, frustrated with the environmental impact, were migrating to other networks. Lubin saw an opportunity to ensure Ethereum remained a player in the NFT space while addressing artist concerns. Enter Palm: a low-energy, sidechain solution built specifically for NFTs.
“We gathered a few early contributors,” Lubin continued, “including Joe Hage from Heni Studios, who helped us bring artists such as Damien Hirst.” Palm quickly gained traction with top-tier artists and companies. Lubin envisioned Palm as a haven for creators of all stripes — visual artists, musicians, athletes — where they could collaborate and build value. The goal? To attract fans, collectors, and investors, potentially even fostering a DeFi ecosystem around digital artistic assets.
During the talk about the Future of Digital Assets, Scott Lawin shared insights on the evolving dynamics of the NFT market: “Monetization and speculation isn’t going to go away. I’m a little concerned about the broader impatience for people who aren’t yet in space, who look at it and they say okay, that’s just another sort of silly bad game.”
John Laberee envisioned the future of NFTs, highlighting the importance of unique assets: “You can go back to so like a one-off one, like a song, like a dynamic-based relationship. Those use cases that we usually enable by having unique assets. That’s where I like what we see in the stand.”
Candy Digital’s innovative approach to digital commemorative tickets was also discussed, showcasing the potential for digital assets to deepen fan-brand relationships.
The last talk of the night was dedicated to showcasing the art from the participants of The Call x Digital Art: Egalitarian Utopia. Empress Trash, one of the master artists and curators behind the expo, shared her mission: “We have technology, but not the networking.” She emphasized the importance of supporting individual creators, stating that “pumping money into individual artists” strengthens the entire ecosystem. Edward Zipco, Co-Founder of The very first Physical NFT Gallery in the world, teased a potential collaboration between Palm and the renowned Superchief Gallery. As the event concluded, attendees were encouraged to embrace the upcoming governance revolution by visiting palmdao.app and creating their unique Palm ID. The event was not just a preview of what’s to come but a testament to the collaborative spirit driving blockchain’s evolution in shaping the future of sports, culture, and entertainment.
The Palm Network pre-NFTNYC event was more than just a warm-up for the conference; it was a significant moment for blockchain enthusiasts looking forward to what’s next. With its new governance model and focus on community and innovation, Palm Network is ready to lead the charge into the future of blockchain, making it more accessible and impactful for everyone involved.
